Comments on utility Mostly maintained for pork and sausage making known as �Chouris�. Manure is used for kitchen gardening.
Comments on breeding tract The pigs are densely populated in Tiswadi, Bardez, and Pernem of the North Goa district; Mormugao, Salcete, Canacona and Quepem talukas of South Goa District of Goa.
Adaptability to environment Preferred by local population due to less maintenance cost, better adaptability and consumer�s preference. These pigs are slow growing, little wild in nature and can sustain in scavenging situation.

Comments on Management Local Pork eating population (Mainly Christian) maintain these pigs in their back yard traditionally. The pigs are slaughtered for celebrations on festivals like Christmas, New Year and marriages.

Any Peculiarity of the breed Average age at slaughter is about 6-8 months in males with a live weight of about 67kg. Female are good mothers, they take care of their piglets very well due to which there is less mortality during early period by stampeding. Females have strong maternal instinct and try to attack strangers
