Selective breeding by Rajput rulers to meet the needs of their cavalry resulted in development of this resilient and elegant breed. It has the influance of Turkman horses from central Asia. Named after area of its origin i.e. Marwar region of Rajasthan.

Herd size is generally 2-3 but it goes up to 20 in some cases. The owners care the horses like their kids. Farmers practice grooming twice a day.

Head is long with soft and medium muzzle. Forehead is flat and broad. Ears are medium in size, soft and curved inward at the tips which are often touching, and can rotate 180 degrees. Nasal bone is flat and long.

Any Peculiarity of the breed
It has strong limbs with clearly defined tendons, square frame and a thin coat which has the ability to cope with heat and cold without excessive dehydration. It has a well developed sense of smell and hearing which is very useful in desert.
